So we think English is the “International Language” and the rest are insignificant?

According to the CIA World Fact Book, only 5.6 % of the world’s total population speaks English as the
mother tongue. That number only rises 2 fold when people who speak English as a second or third language are counted.
While it is undisputed that English has become a global lingua franca over the past few decades. However, the attitude that English alone is enough creates self-imposed obstacles to self-actualisation. To choose to remain monolingual is to intentionally stunt our educational development, restrict our thinking abilities, and to deny ourselves the ability to fully appreciate and understand the world in which we live. Learning another language opens up new opportunities and gives us perspectives which may never materialise otherwise. Personal, professional, social, and economic considerations all point to the advantages of learning foreign languages.
